SUMMER STUDENT POSITION #2010‐1Located near Uptown Waterloo, Leadership Waterloo Region is an organization dedicated to providing leadership development opportunities to emerging leaders in our community. Through our core program and our Youth on Board program, we prepare, educate, nurture and support our community’s emerging leaders. We have obtained funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program for the following position:
Database and Global Update Assistant
Duties: Working with the Program Coordinator and the Executive Director, the student will be responsible for contacting our stakeholders by telephone and email, disseminating forms, gathering data, entering this data into an on‐line database and updating the on‐line alumni directory. This directory is a tool the community uses to recruit leadership volunteers to their boards of directors and committees. This position may also include assisting staff with other duties like reception and program related clerical duties, as well as assisting with preparations for and execution of special events.
Qualifications:

Call Centre or telemarketing experience, or equivalent;

Experienced and comfortable working with the telephone (calls to both established and potential new contacts);

Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, and ability to work independently;

Excellent interpersonal/public relations skills;

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Good organizational and multi‐tasking skills, and a keen eye for detail;

General office experience (typing, filing) would be an asset;

Must be willing to work as a member of a team;

An interest in working on an award‐winning community program designed to train emerging leaders in the region;
Eligibility: This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, so students must:

Be between the ages of 18‐30 years at the start of employment;

Have been registered as a full time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school full time in the next academic year;

Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and

Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Experience to be gained:

Experience and exposure to a new and unique training program;

Opportunity to work with a dynamic team of current community leaders from all sectors in the region.
This position involves working 40 hours per week, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for 12 weeks.
Hourly wage: $11.00 per hour
Start/End dates: June 7, 2010 to August 27, 2010
